Assistant City Manager

The City of Abbeville is currently accepting applications for an Assistant City Manager.

Duties of this position include, but are not limited to:

  • Plans, organizes and directs the activities of the City in relation to community and economic development.
  • Prepares proposals and grant applications for the City of Abbeville.
  • Serves as the primary contact point for investment prospects interested in the City of Abbeville.
  • Manages and directs projects relating to community development and enhancing the quality of life in the community.
  • Coordinates and oversees the City’s Risk Management Program.
  • Performs project management on various city wide projects.
  • Performs related technical, administrative and supervisory work as required.


  • A Bachelor’s degree in public administration, business administration, or regional and urban planning required.
  • Must have strong leadership and project management skills.
  • Must have the ability to communicate complex ideas both orally and in writing.
  • Must have effective communication skills and work well in a team environment.
  • Innovative thinking, conflict resolution, community facilitation and a commitment to continual professional development is highly desirable.

Public Utilities Director

The City of Abbeville is currently accepting applications for a Public Utilities Director.  Under limited supervision plans and directs the city's public utilities operations in compliance with all applicable regulatory policies and standards including electric production (Hydro Electric Dam), transmission and distribution, water and sewer treatment and distribution, customer service, and administration.  Is responsible for the effective administration of public utilities policies and activities.  Responsible for the development and management of the public utilities budget. Duties of this position include, but are not limited to:

  • Directs public utilities operations and recommends sound operational policies.
  • Studies and investigates industry developments for methods of improvement.
  • Assists the City Manager in collecting, researching, and analyzing data in the preparation of reports determining short and long term goals that would improve city utilities.
  • Manages day-to-day operations of the Public Utilities Department
  • Qualifications:

    • Bachelor's degree in electrical or civil engineering, with 4-6 years of engineering experience coupled with utility operations and management experience, or any equivalent combination of training and experience which would provide the required knowledge, skills and leadership abilities.  
    • Must pass a thorough background investigation, pre-employment drug screen and physical examination.
    • Must possess a valid SC driver's license with a good driving history.

    Police Officer

    The City of Abbeville is accepting applications for a full-time police officer.


    • High school diploma/GED
    • Must be at least 21 years old
    • Must have no criminal record
    • Valid SC Class D Driver’s License
    • Must be able to pass a background and license check, drug screen and medical physical
    • SC Class 1 LE certification preferred, but not required
  • Pay Range: $28,731 - $30,472 according to experience
