We are currently accepting applications for the following position: 

Public Utilities Director

Under limited supervision plans and directs the city's public utilities operations in compliance with all applicable regulatory policies and standards including electric production (Hydro Electric Dam), transmission and distribution, water and sewer treatment and distribution, customer service, and administration.  Is responsible for the effective administration of public utilities policies and activities.  Responsible for the development and management of the public utilities budget.  Competitive salary and excellent benefits package.

Duties of the position include, but are not limited to:

  • Directs public utilities operations and recommends sound operational policies.
  • Studies and investigates industry developments for methods of improvement.
  • Assists the City Manager in collecting, researching, and analyzing data in the preparation of reports determining short and long term goals that would improve city utilities.
  • Plans and implements preventive maintenance programs for all the town's public utilities systems.

Qualifications: A bachelor's degree in electrical or civil engineering, with 4-6 years of engineering experience coupled with utility operations and management experience, or any equivalent combination of training and experience which would provide the required knowledge, skills and leadership abilities.  Must possess a valid driver's license.

CDL Driver/Equipment Operator

The City of Abbeville is currently accepting applications for a CDL Driver/Equipment Operator in our Public Works Department.  Responsibilities include but are not limited to:  operating a variety of trucks and specialized, heavy equipment such as knuckle boom loaders and backhoes; ensures the safe operation and utilization of all equipment and machinery; inspects machinery and equipment daily to ensure proper condition for the completion of daily responsibilities; performs necessary repair and maintenance; transports garbage to landfill for dumping; utilizes various types of tools and equipment in the performance of duties; remains abreast of street locations and current traffic laws; ensures proper loading of debris onto trailer, or any other duties as assigned.  This position reports to the Public Works Director.


        This position requires a high school diploma or equivalent. 

        The candidate must also possess a valid SC driver’s license and CDL Certification.

        Must pass a thorough background investigation, pre-employment drug screen and physical examination.
