We are currently accepting job applications for the following positions: 

Public Works Director

The City of Abbeville is accepting applications for a full-time Public Works Director.

Under general supervision manages, plans and supervises the activities of the Public Works Department including the divisions of streets, sanitation and supply, maintenance and construction. Plans and implements administrative systems and procedures for proficiency and cost efficiency. 

Job Duties (including but not limited to)

  • Manages and implements administrative systems and procedures necessary in increasing production and reducing operating costs; ensures that the operations of the Public Works Department are conducted in an effective, efficient, and safe manner.
  • Directs the activities of the street division, sanitation division, and supply, maintenance and construction division; oversees residential and commercial garbage collection, street, sidewalk and driveway repairs, and operation of the city landfill.
  • Conducts a variety of personnel related functions including the supervision of departmental personnel including providing guidance and training, scheduling and coordinating work; recommends personnel procedures to the City Manager; maintains a cross training program for personnel assigned in or to the Public Works Department.

Qualifications:

  • High school diploma with 8-10 years of construction experience, preferably an Associate's degree in Civil Engineering or a related discipline with 5-7 years of public works or related experience; or any equivalent combination of training and experience which provides the required knowledge, skills and abilities.
  • Must pass a thorough background investigation, pre-employment drug screen and physical examination.
  • Must possess a valid South Carolina commercial driver's license.

Assistant Police Chief

The City of Abbeville is accepting applications for a full-time Assistant Police Chief.

Under limited supervision this position provides assistance to the Police Chief.

Job Duties (including but not limited to)

  • Promotes a favorable image of the City and Police Department via communication and interaction with members of the media, citizens, and outside agencies as applicable.
  • Remains abreast of any changes in laws, regulations, policies and procedures; interprets new laws, ordinances, rules and regulations for subordinates.
  • Coordinates and administers an effective community relations program.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in criminal justice or a related field, with progressive experience in all functions of law enforcement; or any equivalent combination of education and experience that provides the required skills, knowledge, and abilities.
  • Must pass a thorough background investigation, pre-employment drug screen and physical examination.
  • Must possess a valid South Carolina Driver's license.

Police Officer

The City of Abbeville is accepting applications for a full-time police officer.

Qualifications:

  • High school diploma/GED
  • Must be at least 21 years old
  • Must have no criminal record
  • Valid SC Class D Driver’s License
  • Must be able to pass a background and license check, drug screen and medical physical
  • SC Class 1 LE certification preferred, but not required
  • Pay Range: $28,731 - $33,283 according to experience
