Animal Control Officer

The City of Abbeville is seeking an Animal Control Officer.

Job Duties/Requirements:

  • Manages the animal shelter facility; maintains a sanitary condition for animals, properly cares for animals that are admitted to the shelter, identifies owners for lost pets, promotes adoption of animals, maintains appropriate capacity at the shelter and euthanizes animals when necessary following proper procedures of humane euthanasia. 
  • Maintains a record system for animals admitted to the shelter and additional documentation, prepared a summary report for billing and provides a monthly shelter report.
  • Responds to calls for retrieval of animals in the jurisdiction assigned; transports animals to animal shelter; reassures and educates public when necessary; patrols jurisdiction; transports dead animals when necessary; investigate and photograph animal abuse cases.
  • Cleans animal shelter and office areas; performs grounds maintenance such as mowing grass, trimming weeds, etc.
  • Operates a personal computer and other office equipment in preparing materials and reports.
  • Operates mechanical tools and cleaning chemicals for the maintenance of the department/animal shelter, lawn equipment for maintenance of the grounds, and productive clothing for the handling of vicious animals. 


  • This position requires a high school diploma , or any equivalent combination of education and experience which provides the required knowledge, skills and ability. 
  • The candidate must also possess a valid SC driver’s license with a good driving record.
  • Must pass a thorough background investigation, pre-employment drug screen and physical examination.

Salary: starting salary is $29,000

Police Officer

The City of Abbeville is accepting applications for a full-time police officer.


  • High school diploma/GED
  • Must be at least 21 years old
  • Must have no criminal record
  • Valid SC Class D Driver’s License
  • Must be able to pass a background and license check, drug screen and medical physical
  • SC Class 1 LE certification preferred, but not required
  • Pay Range: $28,731 - $33,283 according to experience
