We are currently accepting applications for the following positions: 

Public Utilities Director

Under limited supervision plans and directs the city's public utilities operations in compliance with all applicable regulatory policies and standards including electric production (Hydro Electric Dam), transmission and distribution, water and sewer treatment and distribution, customer service, and administration.  Is responsible for the effective administration of public utilities policies and activities.  Responsible for the development and management of the public utilities budget.  Competitive salary and excellent benefits package.

Duties of the position include, but are not limited to:

  • Directs public utilities operations and recommends sound operational policies.
  • Studies and investigates industry developments for methods of improvement.
  • Assists the City Manager in collecting, researching, and analyzing data in the preparation of reports determining short and long term goals that would improve city utilities.
  • Plans and implements preventive maintenance programs for all the town's public utilities systems.

Qualifications: A bachelor's degree in electrical or civil engineering, with 4-6 years of engineering experience coupled with utility operations and management experience, or any equivalent combination of training and experience which would provide the required knowledge, skills and leadership abilities.  Must possess a valid driver's license.

Administrative Assistant and Accounts Payable Coordinator

The City of Abbeville is currently accepting applications for a full time position as Administrative Assistant/Accounts Payable Coordinator.  This position performs a wide variety of specialized clerical, accounting and administrative support for the Administrative Services Department.  Applicant will also provide technical and administrative assistance to the municipal court.  Responsibilities include light accounting and various clerical duties and any other related tasks as needed or assigned.


  • Must have effective communications skills and capable of providing courteous and professional service to the public in a busy environment

  • Requires High School diploma or GED equivalent, with a  2-year Associates degree and at least 3-5 years office or accounting experience 

  • Should be proficient in the use of Microsoft Word and Excel

  •  Must pass a thorough background investigation, pre-employment drug screen and physical examination

  • Must possess a valid SC driver’s license with a good driving history

Pay Range: $26,996 - $28,640

Police Officer

The City of Abbeville is accepting applications for a full-time police officer.


  • High school diploma/GED

  • Must be at least 21 years old

  • Must have no criminal record

  • Valid SC Class D Driver’s License

  • Must be able to pass a background and license check, drug screen and medical physical

  • SC Class 1 LE certification preferred, but not required

Pay Range: $28,731 - $30,472 according to experience
