Public Utilities Director

The City of Abbeville is currently accepting applications for a Public Utilities Director. Under limited supervision plans and directs the city’s public utilities operations in compliance with all applicable regulatory policies and standards including electric production (Hydro Electric Dam), transmission and distribution, water and sewer treatment and distribution, customer service, and administration. Is responsible for the effective administration of public utilities policies and activities. Responsible for the development and management of the public utilities budget. Competitive salary and excellent benefits package.  Must be willing to relocate to the City of Abbeville.

Duties of this position include, but are not limited to:

  • Directs public utilities operationsand recommends sound operational policies.
  • Studies and investigates industry developments for methods of improvement.
  • Manages day-to-day operations of the Public Utilities Department.
  • Assists the City Manager in collecting, researching, and analyzing data in the preparation of reports determining short and long term goals that would improve City utilities.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in electrical or civil engineering, with 4-6 years of engineering experience coupled with utility operations and management experience, or any equivalent combination of training and experience which would provide the required knowledge, skills and leadership abilities.
  • Must pass a thorough background investigation, pre-employment drug screen and physical examination
  • Must possess a valid SC driver’s license with a good driving history


Economic Development and Grants Administrator

Develop and manage Economic and Community Development Programs for the City. Research, evaluate, and pursue grants, awards, and other exterior funding opportunities in support of City activities and projects.

Duties of this position include, but are not limited to:

  • Business retention, attraction, and expansion
  • Marketing, promoting, and collaborating initiatives that will provide growth and development
  • Research and evaluate sources of grants/funding to support City activities and projects
  • Develop, coordinate, and prepare application materials for grants/awards/funding opportunities
  • Facilitate start-up of successfully funded projects or activities
  • Establish collaborative relationships to broaden City's grant-related pursuits
  • Assist with social media and City website

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Business Administration with major coursework in economics, finance, planning, real estate, or public administration; or any equivalent combination of education and experience which provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities.
  • Must pass a thorough background investigation, pre-employment drug screen and physical examination
  • Must possess a valid SC driver’s license with a good driving history


Police Officer

The City of Abbeville is accepting applications for a full-time police officer.

Qualifications:

  • High school diploma/GED
  • Must be at least 21 years old
  • Must have no criminal record
  • Valid SC Class D Driver’s License
  • Must be able to pass a background and license check, drug screen and medical physical
  • SC Class 1 LE certification preferred, but not required
  • Pay Range: $28,731 - $30,472 according to experience
